Re-Introducing Dodd Rescue...

It's a year since we gave the insolvency team at Dodd & Co a new name and a new look. Since then we have been busy helping local people and local businesses who have hit on hard times.

The department, headed up by Jeanette Brown (Licensed Insolvency Practitioner) has expanded a little since we introduced ourselves in January 2010. Becky Ashburner has joined our team, and specialises in helping individuals, particularly those where an IVA is proposed. Jackie Parsons joined us in the insolvency department a number of years ago, and now has obtained her insolvency licence, giving us two licensed insolvency practitioners within the firm.

If you or any of your clients and contacts may be in need of some specialist insolvency advice, please do not hesitate to contact one of the team.

Don't forget, our work isn't always just with individuals and businesses that are struggling, much of our work involves winding up solvent companies in a tax efficient way, working alongside the company's current accountant and advisors to formally wind up the company and extract funds.

We hope you find our regular e-bulletins interesting.  We try to keep our ear to the ground, but if ever you do come across any specific issues that you or your clients are facing that may be useful for other businesses in the area to be aware of, we would love to hear from you.

As always, please contact Jeanette or Jackie for further help and advice on 0800 954 0520 or email us on Jeanette@doddrescue.co.uk or Jackie@doddrescue.co.uk

30 January 2012

New rules being brought in by HMRC on 1 March 2012 will effectively ban the use of the informal winding up of companies to take advantage of 10% tax rates.

This announcement is largely in response to the growing trend of accountants advising their clients to leave profits in their company and then extract them at a 10% capital gains tax (CGT) rate on an informal winding up of their company.
